Since 2005, Ryu has been actively instructing piano and music lessons for beginning to college-prep level students ranging from three-years old to adult. In addition to her experience in teaching piano privately and in group settings, she has a firm background in percussion performance and education. After receiving a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in 2010, Ryu continued her education at California State University Fullerton with a Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy, completed in her degree in 2012. Her seriousness in education study stems further into a pursuit of a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music and a Doctorate in Music.
As a performer, Ryu has been taking private lessons since the age of three and began performing and competing since she was seven. She has studied with respected teachers and professor Kyung-Suk Kwon, Gina Morton, Sergey Martinchuk, Junghwa Moon Auer and Alison Edwards. Since 2007, she has been a member of the CSU Fullerton Wind Symphony under the guidance of Dr. Mitch Fennell, as their accompanying pianist. Her recent pianistic involvement includes activities in both solo and chamber recitals. In 2010, she received the first winning prize in both the Orange Country Barbershop Chorus Scholarship and Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship. In addition to her various achievements and winnings of her piano studies, she has earned multiple awards and gold medals through her percussion career with The Riverside Community College Percussion Ensemble and the world-touring Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. In the March 2006 Issue of In Tune Monthly Magazine Ryu has been featured as both pianist and percussionist, which exposed her musical careers in extensive national and worldwide tours across various countries in Europe, South Korea, and Japan.
In addition to her performing career, she maintains an active career as a private piano teacher and an assistant band director at a public junior high school in Chino Hills. Her recent academic research titled, “The Role of the Piano in Grade School Classroom Music Instruction: Implementing Piano Pedagogy Methods to Meet the National Standards,” demonstrates her significant interest in both piano pedagogy and general music education. Currently, Ryu is a member of MTAC (Music Teacher's Association of California) qualifying her students to participate in the annual Certificate of Merit evaluations.
Her teaching philosophy centers around the concept of allowing flexibility in her teaching techniques based on the students' needs to help them meet their personal goals as a musician, and to satisfy a proper development for the student. She approaches each student professionally with the uniqueness they deserve. Throughout her performing, teaching and academic career, she accredits her teachers, family and God for her emerging success.

My daughter has enjoyed her piano lessons with Anna Ryu for over 7 years. Anna has a wonderful gift for teaching others what she loves to do... play the piano! She is patient, kind, inspiring and motivating. In addition I have seen wonderful progress in my daughter as she continually excels in her Certificate of Merit evaluations each year. As a parent, I am very appreciative of Anna's clear and consistent communication regarding my daughter's progress and in arranging lessons, recitals and workshops. Anna is truly an outstanding teacher!
